Nominating Committee list of nominees for 2025 Board of Directors candidates
Curt Hutton
My wife Nancy and I decided to join Hollow Rock a little over 6 years ago. We were instantly smitten with the facility and, especially, the courteous and professional staff. We have been extremely pleased with our decision ever since. Nancy enjoys playing tennis and I am spending my "post-tennis years" playing pickleball and swimming in the summers. I have served on the Hollow Rock Board of Directors for the past three years. It has been a great pleasure to learn more about all of the special things, large and small, that make Hollow Rock such a special community. My time on the Board has been very satisfying and I would like to serve for another term. As to my background: I retired from a career that started in engineering and progressed through adventures in operations management, product marketing, and business development. Since retiring, I spend my time volunteering in science and math education, while being educated myself by my children and grandchildren. In addition to my other retirement activities, I have served on the volunteer boards of three different homeowners' associations. I am running for another term on the club's Board of Directors because I would welcome the opportunity to continue building the welcoming, energizing, high-standards culture that we have experienced at Hollow Rock.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone around the club!

I am thrilled to have been nominated as a candidate for the Hollow Rock Board of Directors. Since my family joined four years ago, Hollow Rock has become my family's second home. Every now and again, I will stop and wonder - what on earth would our lives be like if we had not joined Hollow Rock during the pandemic? It is a central part of my family's life. My husband and I both discovered tennis as a hobby (for me, more like obsession), and both our sons have come up through the junior program and are avid tennis players as well. We love the community we feel at the club; not just among the members but with the coaches and staff as well. My eldest even said once, "Mom, can we celebrate every year the day we got into Hollow Rock?"
My family members are active users of many aspects of the club's offerings - the courts, the clinics (both junior and adult), the gym, the family pool, the lap pool, and the summer camps - and as a result, I feel well equipped to bring together an active and ardent member's perspective. Additionally, my background in computer engineering as a systems architect helps me see the whole picture of any systems, how the subsystems function and relate to create the greater whole. My working roles can often be described as new project strategist - relying on technical acumen to identify appropriate data to be collected and interpreted, then aligning stakeholders to determine a course of action to make something happen. We could also ban the corporate-speak and just say, I tend to work on nascent projects where the first questions are "what should we do, why, and how do we do it?" I would be happy to apply these analytical skills to help Hollow Rock continue to be the wonderful institution that it is for the myriad users of the club, as well as grow into the future.
Hollow Rock as given much to my family, and I am happy to be afforded the opportunity to give back.

I am honored to be nominated as a candidate for the Hollow Rock Board of Directors.
My husband, Steve, and I love the Hollow Rock community and are grateful for the warm welcome we received when we moved to Durham. I appreciate this opportunity to share my professional and personal background with other members of Hollow Rock.
While living in New Jersey, I was actively involved in women’s high school lacrosse for 40 years. I am a certified women’s high school and NCAA lacrosse umpire. In 1980, I founded the Central Jersey 3 Women’s Lacrosse Chapter for officials, serving in several key leadership roles, including President, Treasurer, Trainer, and Rules Interpreter. As the Trainer for Central Jersey 3, my responsibilities included planning, programming, and overseeing competitive lacrosse events to train and evaluate new and returning Officials locally and nationally. I would also act as a liaison between the local and national boards, specifically as an Official and Rules Interpreter at the Annual National United States Lacrosse Convention. My other duties involved mediating conflicts between the Local Board and high school coaches regarding rules and performance-related issues, overseeing and teaching an annual six-week course for prospective lacrosse Officials, and organizing and facilitating rule interpretation meetings for regional middle and high school coaches.
In addition to my lifelong involvement with women’s sports, I worked as a licensed residential Real Estate sales associate and Rental Property Manager in the greater Princeton area for 25 years. These roles required that I be the primary point of contact for all non-emergency problems and challenges for tenants on rental properties. I conducted, scheduled, and oversaw necessary Township and State inspections, negotiated terms between buyers, sellers, and attorneys, and liaised between landlords and tenants.
For seven years, I volunteered with Womanspace, Inc., as a member of the Domestic Violence Victim Response Team. This required meeting domestic violence victims at local police stations as an on-call responder and advocate, providing support and information to victims about services available to them and their children, and assisting victims in understanding the process of applying for Temporary Restraining Orders and ongoing safety plans.
In 2022, Steve and I relocated from Princeton, New Jersey, to Durham to live closer to one of our daughters and grandchildren, who are also Hollow Rock members. In addition to our daughter and her family here in Durham, we have children in Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. We have 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild! We are an incredibly close family and enjoy frequent visits with everyone.
A few years ago, I hung up my tennis racket and thoroughly loved joining the pickleball community! My husband is an avid lap swimmer and together, we enjoy the variety of holiday events and the winter Sunday music series at Hollow Rock. We also enjoy socializing poolside during the summer season with friends and family. Since moving to Durham, I have also enjoyed volunteering with the Swim For Charlie Program and working part-time on the Special Events Team at the Museum of Life and Science.
My professional and personal background conveys my passion for working with people and organizations. I have worked with people of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels. I understand and respect the importance of working as a team member to achieve common goals.
Should I be elected, I will bring these strengths to the Hollow Rock Board and contribute positively.
