Update Aug 17

Lap Pool Restoration Project Update

We are pleased to provide another update on the progress of the Lap Pool Restoration Project. The project continues to move forward, and we are currently on schedule to complete the work within the original 8–10 week timeframe, weather permitting.

Project Progress

Over the past week, the contractor has continued removing the remaining sections of the old concrete, and most of the demolition work is now complete.

Several important components of the new pool have also been installed:

  • New pool coping has been installed.

  • New depth markers and waterline tile have been installed.

  • Insulation for the radiant-heated pool deck has been laid out.

  • The electrician has begun installing the new bonding around the pool as well as the conduit that will supply the new pool lighting.

With demolition nearing completion, the project is now moving into the installation phase and beginning to take shape.

What's Coming Next

The next several weeks will be focused on completing the infrastructure underneath the new pool deck and preparing for the concrete pour.

  • Installation of the radiant heating system is currently underway.

  • Electrical work within the pool deck is scheduled to be completed this week.

  • Work on the exterior pool lighting is also scheduled to begin.

  • Assuming there are no weather delays, the contractor is currently planning to pour the new concrete pool deck on Monday, August 24.

Once the new deck has been poured, the contractor will move into the final major phases of the project, including replastering the pool.

At this point, and assuming favorable weather conditions, we remain on schedule to complete the project within the original 8–10 week timeframe. As we get closer to completion, we will have a much better understanding of the exact reopening date and will provide members with additional information as soon as it is available.

Update August 3

Lap Pool 8/3/26

Lap Pool Restoration Project Update

We are pleased to share that the Lap Pool Restoration Project is off to a strong start, and we appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as work continues.

Project Progress

Over the past two weeks, significant progress has been made. The contractor has completed the demolition of the existing concrete pool deck and is in the process of removing and hauling away the remaining debris.

Once the pool was drained and thoroughly inspected, it became evident that the condition of the existing plaster was more deteriorated than originally anticipated. Much of the pool surface had begun to delaminate, with numerous hollow areas discovered beneath the plaster. As a result, the contractor determined that a complete chip-out of the existing plaster was necessary before the new interior finish could be installed.

While this additional work was not originally anticipated, it reinforces that this restoration was a much-needed investment in the long-term integrity of the pool. Removing all compromised material now will ensure a sound foundation for the new plaster and help maximize the lifespan of the renovated pool.

Schedule Update

Like many outdoor construction projects, we have experienced a few weather-related delays due to recent rainfall. Combined with the additional time required for the full chip-out, the project has encountered some minor setbacks.

The good news is that, at this time, we do not anticipate these delays affecting the overall project schedule. The contractor remains confident that the project is on track, and we continue to anticipate completion within the original 8-10 week timeline, weather permitting.

What's Coming Next

Over the next several weeks, members can expect to see the following milestones:

  • Demolition is expected to be completed this week.

  • Installation of the new waterline tile is currently underway.

  • Once weather conditions allow, the contractor will begin installing the new pool coping, which is expected to begin sometime next week.

  • Following the coping installation, crews will complete several important infrastructure improvements, including:

    • Installation of the new radiant deck heating system

    • Electrical work for the new pool lighting

    • Installation of new bonding around the pool to meet current code requirements

This phase of the project is expected to take approximately 2-3 weeks.

Once these items are complete, construction will move into the final stages of the project, including pouring the new concrete deck and applying the new pool plaster. At that point, we will have a much clearer picture of the anticipated reopening date and will share a more specific timeline with members.

We would like to thank everyone for your continued patience and understanding as this important project moves forward. We know the temporary closure has required adjustments, and we appreciate the flexibility our members have shown throughout the process.

We will continue providing regular project updates as major milestones are reached and look forward to welcoming everyone back to a beautifully restored lap pool later soon.

Initial Update- July 5th

 Important Lap Pool Restoration Information

As we approach the start of our Lap Pool Restoration Project, we wanted to provide members with important information to help prepare for the temporary closure and explain what to expect throughout the project.

Project Timeline

The lap pool will close beginning Friday, July 17.

We will dechlorinate the water and test it for chlorine content prior to draining the pool. This is a safe and commonly accepted practice and does not negatively affect the surrounding environment. This environmentally responsible process ensures that the water released into the storm drain is safe and will not negatively impact the surrounding environment.

Why Is the Project Taking Place During the Summer?

Several factors were considered when determining the timing of this project.

Alternative Swimming Accommodations

Completing the project during the summer allows us to continue providing lap swimming opportunities through our Family Pool and partner facilities. Outside of the summer season, these alternative options would not be available, resulting in a complete interruption of lap swimming.

Contractor Availability

The contractors and their subcontractors are significantly less committed to other swimming pool projects during the summer months than they are during the fall & spring. This reduces the risk of project delay due to unexpected developments in our project or in others that they may be engaged in concurrently.

Weather Considerations

Performing the work during the summer gives the contractor the best opportunity to stay on schedule. Delaying the project until the fall, winter, or early spring would introduce weather-related risks that could significantly extend the timeline. Concrete installation and curing require consistent temperatures above 50°F, making summer the most favorable construction window.

Carolina Aquatics Team Commitment

We are contractually obligated to provide lap pool access outside of the summer season for our partner, Carolina Aquatics Team. Beginning the project now provides the greatest opportunity to complete the restoration before their fall programming resumes.

What to Expect During Construction

Because this is a major restoration project, there will be periods of construction noise and dust.

To minimize the impact:

  • A protective barrier will be installed along the fence surrounding the lap pool.

  • The contractor will use water while cutting concrete to significantly reduce airborne dust.

  • Heavy excavation equipment will not be used. Instead, the contractor will utilize smaller machinery to remove concrete and debris.

While every effort will be made to minimize disruptions, members should expect the normal activity associated with an active construction site adjacent to the Family Pool. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout the restoration.

Additional Information

Please keep the following in mind during the restoration:

  • The lap pool and lap pool locker rooms will be completely closed throughout the project.

  • Members may continue to park in the lap pool parking lot but must enter all facilities by walking around the pools and accessing the club through the main entrance.

  • Upon completion of the project, the lap pool gate will operate using a new access control system. Existing key fobs will no longer work. Additional information explaining the new system and the transition process will be shared as we approach the reopening of the lap pool.

  • If you are swimming prior to 8:00 AM, you can access the club using the side gate located adjacent to the clubhouse. The code to enter is 5100. This code does not work after 8:00 AM. The pool gate will be open that is adjacent to the Men’s Family Pool Locker Room to access the pool every morning.

Project Updates

The restoration is expected to take approximately 8–10 weeks, weather permitting. We will continue to provide periodic updates throughout the project to keep members informed of our progress.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we complete this important investment in the Club. We are excited to unveil a beautifully restored lap pool that will serve our members for many years to come.
